A review of "The Wayward Cloud"

Posted : 5 months, 3 weeks ago on 10 June 2009 08:01 (A review of The Wayward Cloud)

Ming-liang Tsai has yet again impressed me with his work. This movie was fantastic,
from the strange music scenes, and to the calm and relaxing moments. Ming-liang Tsai shows how it is in the porn industry, at least in amateur porn movies.

The plot of the film is pretty original and watermelons have a fairly large role in the film. The water in the Asian city has been turned off due to bad times of drought. Because of that they use watermelons in many situations. They drink watermelon juice, has sex with watermelons, etc. I read a place that watermelons are a sign of love, something the film also has a large focus on. Love between the main role and a the female partner. The main role is played by Kang-sheng Lee (he plays in all the films of Tsai Ming-liang, excluding TV movies). The woman is played at Shiang-chyi Chen, who also played in some other Tsai films.

Dialogs in the film is perfect but the actors rarely exchange any words. Something that fits well in this movie (and the others made by Tsai), it makes a feeling of loneliness and isolation. I like the other ones by Tsai a littlebit better, but this one is still a masterpiece.

A review of “Insomnia”

Posted : 5 months, 3 weeks ago on 10 June 2009 07:58 (A review of Insomnia)

The tired Will Dorms (Pacino) has been sent to a small village to investigate a murder. Insufficient sleep causes him to lose focus and make the wrong choices. The consequences are on-going and Will do anything to fix it.

I must say that I like Robin Williams a lot better as a serious actor, than the stupid comedies he plays in. He plays at least okay here, so does Pacino. The movie was also quite okay, kept the tension high, at least in the beginning. But towards the end it slowed down a little, the tension went away.

The film is based on a Norwegian film, which I still need to see. Have the feeling tho that it is on the same level as this. This film (the remake), is very typical Nolan, at least in terms of music, cinematography etc. Nolan fans should see it, or people that want simple sunday entertainment.

A review of "Heat 2"

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 16 April 2009 08:11 (A review of The Dark Knight)

When the movie started I was sure of that I was watching Heat. Is this a lame try to make a realistic superhero movie? Superhero movies are suppose to be unrealistic, atleast in my world. And who are we suppose to like? Batman is clearly an asshole in this movie. The Joker got likable jokes and dialog, so I guess thats what they try to. Make people like The Joker. But wtf, isnt this a Batman movie?

The movie had some good action scenes, and some thrilling scenes, but nothing more. The gadgets was terrible. The mobilephone tracker glasses GPS thing was ridiculous. Why make something so unrealistic into a movie that try hard to be realistic.

Well the movie did a good job scare away my braincells, and its to bad that the movie makes it impossible to gain some.

Dogville: The perfect town

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 16 April 2009 05:06 (A review of Dogville)

I didnt know anything about this movie before I saw it, so I was shocked when I saw what kinda creation I was looking at. Everything in the movie is made on a stage. Instead of walls, there are lines. Instead of objects like sand etc, there are sounds. When they knock on doors, they really knock on air.
But I wasn't angry at all for what I saw, I was amazed. Thats fucking creative I thought to myself.

Lars Von Trier made a pretty creative movie about human conditions. How fucking stupid and cruel people actually get. This movie provoked me in many ways. I was actually angry because of what I saw.

The movie is 3 hours long, but feel like its 2 hours. When the movie ended I wanted more. I guess Lars Von Trier wanted more too, because Dogville is a part of an Trilogy and number 2 in the line is Manderlay. The third is Wasington and is in the making as we speak. I cant wait, because Dogville was a freaking masterpiece.

10/10

Steamboat Bill, Jr.

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 16 April 2009 11:53 (A review of Steamboat Bill, Jr.)

The film started pretty slow. Where was the gags?. But after some minutes the slowness went away. The scene in the hat shop was brilliant, comedy as it best.
And a scene when he tried to rescue his father from prison was pretty funny.

When the "storm scenes" started the movie went from an "okey movie" to "fucking hilarious". The gags was literally waiting in lines. 15 minutes of pure fun!

Gotta say tho that this isnt Keaton's best, The general was better imo, but Steamboat had some brilliant moments.

8/10

A strange masterpiece

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 15 April 2009 07:56 (A review of The Hole (France))

I fucking love this movie. Its a masterpiece in any category. Drama, music , comedy, love story etc. I love the long takes, many people does not like that shit, but I love it.

The movie successfully creates a feeling of loneliness and isolation. With the heavy raining sound in the background makes it even more "isolated". The acting is pretty good, if you can call it acting. The movie got minimum of dialog, but that does not make the movie bad.

Some scenes is pretty fucking wierd, especially a scene with a foot down the hole. You can see a picture here:

The movie got some scenes with a chick singing some random songs. I don't know why that is, but I still enjoyed it.
I recommend this movie to anyone with a taste of surreal cinema.

I will survive

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 15 April 2009 06:48 (A review of The Pianist)

A good movie needs good cinematography, good acting, good music and good story. This movie got it all. its far from boring, entertain you from the start to the end.

Adrien Brody does a very good job. And I can say the same about the other actors. The movie itself is pretty good, it show you how meaningless the war can be. And how hard it was to survive it.

Its a good WW2 movie, but ive seen better ones. Idi I Smotri is one of them.

I give this movie an 8/10

The film that made me fall into catalepsy

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 15 April 2009 06:08 (A review of The Man Who Fell to Earth)

Gotta love this movie. The opening scenes are fantastic! Beautiful images and fantastic music, makes you get in a some sort of catalepsy.

This picture describes it perfectly.

Anyway, the acting is superb, cinematography is superb, photography is very beautiful. I actually got some sort of 2001: A Space Odyssey feeling when I saw it. You know what im talking about, if you've seen it.

I recommend this movie from the root of my heart.

Musical Orgasm

Posted : 7 months, 2 weeks ago on 15 April 2009 05:53 (A review of Pink Floyd: The Wall)

I wasn't that big fan of Pink Floyd when I first saw this. But I gotta say, the music is brilliant stuff. Mixed with fantastic pictures, this movie is a masterpiece.

This movie got it all, from the classroom to the war. Its a very philosophic movie. It make you ask plenty of questions about life.

The cinematography is perfection, the dark mood is perfection. Well the movie is almost perfection from start to the end.

Its not the best movie ive ever seen, but i'll give it a 9/10 because its a pretty damn good movie.
